Week 8-9 Assignment
Contrast - Edit 1
For Contrast, I used two different sounds for two different videos. While my dog, Loki, was laying down I added in calmer music, to portray the chill and carefree setting. When he was running after a squeaky toy I instead opted for a more bubbly and upbeat tune, to show the playfulness in the shot. These were both non-diegetic, as they were simply background noise.
Parallelism - Edit 2
For Parallelism, I did another Sound Bridge, to link both scenes, but in different locations. Although not incredibly great at making sense, the Sound Bridge allowed the scenes to be seen as one whole, entirely like in the Symbolism edit.
Symbolism - Edit 3
For Symbolism, I took a video of my dog with his ears up and transitioned into a picture of Loki's helmet. In this edit, I simply added in continuous sound throughout both videos (Sound Bridge). I did this to show that they weren't two separate thoughts but rather connected. The sound was able to ensure that both ideas be shown as one whole thought.
Simultaneity - Edit 4
For Simultaneity, I took a few shots and added music to only a few. When the camera went to show the forest scenes I used the direct sound from the original video (blowing wind), while I used added music of a clock ticking in the shots of a white room with a clock. The wind blowing made the scene much more tranquil, while the obnoxiously loud ticking added an unsettling or suspenseful air to the pain room.
Leitmotif - Edit 5
In this video, I used two different kinds of music. When the camera went to the grouchy human, I added in background rock music, but when the camera went to my Heavenly dog I added in gentle wind chimes. These are both examples of non- diegetic sound. I used these two drastically different sounds to make subject 1 (Human) appear much grouchier, and almost mean to the viewer. For subject 2 (Divine dog), I used the wind chimes to create a more welcoming and friendlier environment for the viewer, to make my dog seem calmer and nicer.
